Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS)

The ARTS benefit provides help for those with substance use disorders across the state. About 1.1 million people in Virginia are covered by Medicaid and FAMIS and have access now to the ARTS benefit! The ARTS benefit expands inpatient detox and residential treatment to all Medicaid and FAMIS enrolled members as well as increased provider rates for substance use intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, day treatment, case management and medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction. The Medicaid provider network has expanded exponentially since the implementation of ARTS – resulting with a 50% increase of members receiving treatment in the first 3 months after implementation!

The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) collaborated with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to create an interactive google map of the ARTS Provider Network. You are invited to visit the ARTS Provider mapping tool, as well as share this with your provider community– click here to see the map as well as the list of ARTS providers by managed care region. The mapping tool will be updated every three (3) months with the ARTS Network of Providers across all American Society of Addiction Medicine Levels of Care. Please be aware providers can be reimbursed for Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to help determine if an individual needs referred to a treatment provider. The one-pager also provides more information on reimbursement for SBIRT.
